Streaming FAQs
Q: What is Streaming Media?
A: Streaming Media is the technology that allows you to view audio and video on the Web without having to wait for the media to download completely onto your machine. In other words, the streaming media information is being fed to you as the media is viewed. Therefore, there is no waiting period. Audio and video data are being "streamed" bit-by-bit from the server to your machine to limit the amount of bandwidth required.
Q: Why use streaming media to enhance your audio conference calls?
A: Streaming media allows corporations to extend the size and scope of traditional audio conference call. Streaming media enables a one-to-many communications channel to hundreds or thousands of on-line participants. Instead of being limited to communicating only to people who have conferencing equipment, you can now communicate to anyone with a PC, web browser, Internet connection and streaming media player.
Q: What is a Live streaming media event?
A: A live streaming media event allows attendees to hear live audio streaming via their PC as the event is taking place.
Q: What is a Replay streaming media event?
A: A replay is a historical record of a past Conference Webcast. Replay content is available shortly after the live Conference Webcast event for the duration of 30 days.
Q: Can I have multiple presenters during my live Conference Webcast event?
A: Yes - this is what makes hosting a Conference Webcast event so compelling. Your presenters may be located in remote locations for many reasons:
- Your broadcast may include a subject matter expert who cannot travel because of financial or time constraints.
- You may decide to have a geographically dispersed panel of experts participate in your broadcast.
- Your main speaker cannot be on-site for the broadcast because of a mundane situation like traffic or car problems.
Use your Verizon Conferencing audio conferencing equipment/service to host a multipoint conference.
Q: Which Web browser should I recommend to attendees?
A: All of the Conference Webcast event packages are compatible with both Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator. The deciding factor should be your comfort level with a particular browser. Conference Webcast hosts will need to use Internet Explorer 4.0 (or above).
Q: How do attendees adjust their audio level on their PC?
A: Attendees must have a sound card and a streaming media player installed on their computer to hear live or replay audio content. First, make sure that your PC speakers are properly connected to the computer. Next, check the volume control on your PC (this is usually called the "Master Volume Control" or "Volume Control"). To check volume settings, click on the Volume icon at the bottom right corner of your PC desktop. Make sure that the volume is not muted and then adjust volume controls accordingly.
